Por qué el 25 de noviembre es el
Día Internacional contra la Violencia de Géner
 
El 25 de noviembre es un día de reflexión y denuncia contra las diferentes formas de violencia que sufren las mujeres.

La idea de celebrarlo nace en el Ier Encuentro Feminista de Latinoamérica y del Caribe celebrado en Colombia en julio de 1981.
En 1993 la Asamblea General de las Naciones Unidas aprobó la Declaración sobre la Eliminación de la Violencia contra la Mujer, en la que se definió la "violencia contra la mujer" como
«todo acto de violencia basado en el género que tiene como resultado posible o real un daño físico, sexual o psicológico, incluidas las amenazas, la coerción o la prohibición arbitraria de la libertad, ya sea que ocurra en la vía pública o en la vía privada. »
El 17 de diciembre de 1999, la Asamblea General de las Naciones Unidas designó el 25 de noviembre como el Día Internacional de la Eliminación de la Violencia contra la Mujer. La ONU invitó a «gobiernos, organizaciones internacionales y organizaciones no gubernamentales a organizar actividades dirigidas a sensibilizar al público respecto del problema en este día como una celebración internacional.»

Se eligió el 25 de noviembre para conmemorar la muerte de las hermanas Mirabal (Patria, Minerva y Maria Teresa), tres activistas políticas asesinadas el 25 de noviembre de 1960 en manos por la policía secreta del dictador Rafael Trujillo en la República Dominicana. Minerva y María Teresa previamente fueron encarceladas, violadas y torturadas en varias ocasiones.

I'm Adjoa, the English language assistant. I am from a small town called Fishers in Indiana. This is me talking about Thanksgiving in the US. We use this day to remember things we are thankful for. I am thankful for the schools that I work at, the incredibly kind teachers, and my very enthusiastic students. I love living in Seville, Spain and I love my job as an English language assistant.

PUMPKIN PIE

Pumpkin Recipes: Pumpkin Pie Recipes

Easy Pumpkin Pie
The traditional pumpkin pie is always great but here is a simple recipe for the kids to enjoy making.
9 inch unbaked pie shell
2 Cups pumpkin or 1 -15 oz. can
1 can sweetened condensed milk
1 egg
½ teaspoon salt
½ teaspoon nutmeg
½ teaspoon ginger
¾ teaspoon cinnamon
In large bowl, blend all ingredients together except pie shell. Pour mixture into pie shell and bake at 375 for 50-55 minutes. Chill 1 hour.

Pumpkin Pie Squares
1 1/4 Cups flour
3/4 Cup oats
1/2 Cup brown sugar
1/2 Cup pecans, chopped
2/3 Cup butter
4 eggs
4 Cups of fresh cooked pumpkin or 2- 15 ounce cans pumpkin
2 cans sweetened condensed milk
2 teaspoons ground cinnamon
1 teaspoon ginger
1/2 teaspoon nutmeg
1 teaspoon salt
Preheat oven to 350 degrees. Mix in bowl, flour, oats, pecans and brown sugar. Melt butter then mix with oat mixture until crumbly. Press onto bottom of 9x13 baking dish. Bake 15 minutes. While baking, beat eggs, pumpkin, sweetened condensed milk, spices and salt until smooth. When crumbly crust is done pour mixture over top. Bake 30-35 minutes. Cut into squares. You can top with whipped topping, if desired.

Pastel de calabaza

Es muy sencillo de realizar y aunque la receta es siempre la misma, nosotros mismos podemos aportar nuestras variaciones, ya que en realidad el ingrediente principal en este caso la calabaza, lo podemos sustituir si queremos por otros como la manzana. De este modo tendrás una receta de pastel para cualquier tipo de ocasión no solo para Acción de Gracias.
Para hacer el pastel de calabaza necesitamos los siguientes ingredientes:

• 500 grs. de calabaza (cocida o asada)
• 250 grs. de harina
• 4 huevos
• 1 sobre de levadura
• 200 gramos de azúcar
• 2 cucharadas de mantequilla

En un recipiente, batimos los huevos enteros junto con el azúcar y la mantequilla derretida, hasta que la mezcla adquiera un color claro similar al blanco. Añadimos entonces la calabaza bien triturada y, por último, la harina tamizada junto con la levadura. Mezclamos todo bien y echamos al molde. Introducimos al horno, que estará precalentado, a unos 180ºC durante unos 40 minutos aproximadamente.

What is Thanksgiving Day?
Thanksgiving Day is a day set aside each year where people in the United States and Canada give thanks to God for all the blessings they received during the year by feasting and prayer.

Symbols of Thanksgiving

` The Turkey Thanksgiving Day celebration will be incomplete without the legendary turykey. The Pilgrims used to call any wild fowl, turkey. The turkey is usually the main course of most household during this celebration. It is a customary dinner which serves as a reminder of the four wild turkeys that were served at the first Thanksgiving feast.
The Cornucopia The Cornucopia s a symbol of nature's productivity. It is the "horn of plenty" and is the most common symbol of a harvest festival. It is a horn-shaped container or basket that is filled with the abundance of a harvest. The traditional cornucopia was a curved goat's horn.
According to ancient Greek mythology, it was one of the horns of a goat called Amalthaea. The horn could produce ambrosia and nectar which was the food and drink of the gods. This goat supposedly nursed the god Zeus when he was a baby. Zeus later set the goat's image in the sky known to us today as the constellation Capricorn, to show his gratitude.
However, according to Roman mythology, the cornucopia was the horn of Achelous, the river god. The horn was broken off in a fight with Hercules. It was believed that Achelous came in the form of a bull. The water nymphs then filled the horn with flowers and fruit to offer it to the goddess of plenty, called Copia.

The Pumpkin Another symbol of the modern Thanksgiving dinner is the pumpkin pie. The pumpkin is one of the most important symbols of the harvest festival and is an American favorite.

Cranberries Cranberries are a kind of berry. Its name originated from crane berry because of its pink blossoms and drooping head which reminded the Pilgrims of the crane. The Pilgrims found out how to sweeten the bitter cranberries with maple sugar. The cranberry sauce was and is still used as a compabion of turkey during Thanksgiving dinner.
